Carbon County court

A former Carbon County resident entered a guilty plea in the county court on Tuesday admitting she violated the provisions of Megan’s Law as a convicted sexual offender.

She was one of 10 defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Registration violation

Brandice Andrea Boner, 41, now residing in Tennessee and formerly of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of obstruction in the administration of law, a misdemeanor 2. In exchange for the plea two felony 3 counts of failure to register with the state police and failure verify address/be photographed, were dropped.

She was charged by Nesquehoning police for not registering as a sex offender as required under Megan’s Law.

In August 2014 she was sentenced in the county court on a corruption of a minors charge to serve 9 to 18 months in prison for having sexual relations with a then 16-year-old boy. She was 34 at the time. Part of the sentence included she had to register as a sex offender for 15 years.

Nanovic went along with a request to sentence her in the mitigated range of the state sentencing guidelines and placed her on probation for two years. The standard range of the guidelines could have meant a prison term.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

Contraband

Amber Colleen Defiore, 28, of Bethlehem, pleaded guilty in two pending cases to one count each of contraband - controlled substances into the prison, a misdemeanor 1, and escape, a felony 3.

The contraband charge was filed for an incident on March 5, 2021, when she appeared at the county prison to begin serving a weekend sentence and had illegal drugs on her.

She was charged with escape for an incident on Feb. 8. She was furloughed from the prison to enter an inpatient rehab program. She was told if she left the program early or was removed from it, she had to report to the prison to continue serving her term.

She left the program on her own but did not return to the prison and had to be picked up on a warrant.

She is currently an inmate in the Luzerne County prison.

Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
