Chili cook-off is held to benefit West End parks

On Feb. 12, the West End Park and Open Space Commission held a chili cook-off to raise money that will go to WEPOSC’s parks.

Eleven cooks competed, all hoping their chili recipe would be a blue-ribbon winner.

First-place winner Kelly Carson won with her tasty vegetarian chili and she was surprised because it was her first time entering a cook-off.

Mandy McShane of Gilbert won second place for her homestyle chili and Charlie Droll won third place with his traditional chili that he named Scoutmaster Chili.

Several Scouts and scoutmasters competed in the contest to help raise funds for WEPOSC’s parks.

“We made over $400 and the money will go to the West End Regional Park improvements, said Bernie Kozen, executive director of Chestnuthill parks.
