WinterFest has ice carvings, train rides, entertainment

The 29th annual Jim Thorpe WinterFest is being held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in downtown Jim Thorpe.

The annual celebration will feature ice carvings and ice bars, live entertainment, train rides, horse drawn carriage rides, food and drink specials, and the famous Mug Walk.

Mug Walkers take the official souvenir Jim Thorpe mug to participating shops and restaurants where they will receive sweets, treats, trinkets, novelties and special discounts.

Businesses include Wild Elder Tasting Room and Eatery, which will be selling mulled wine.

Jim Thorpe Trolley Company will be offering one-hour tours through town during WinterFest.

Take a 70-minute train ride through the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park.

Trains depart the Jim Thorpe Train Station at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Purchase your tickets at 570-325-8485.

Entertainment will include Faculty Brass, who will be strolling throughout the historic district on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

In conjunction with WinterFest, the Friends of the Dimmick Library are hosting a book sale inside the library from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday. Masks are required inside the library.

Stroudsburg

Downtown Stroudsburg is also having its Winterfest Saturday with 50-plus ocean themed ice sculptures.

Visit the large display in the Courthouse Square and live sculpting demonstration from 10 a.m. to noon. Check out the snowmen display.
