The Lehighton Education and Athletic Foundation is seeking nominees for its sixth “Graduates of Distinction” class. The program is designed to recognize alumni of the Lehighton Area School District who have achieved notable success in their occupational field or who have served their community or humanity in a positive way.

Applications, available at www.LEAF-foundation.org, may be submitted by anyone who thinks a candidate is worthy of consideration for admission. They may also be obtained by contacting Tim Tkach at sharptkach@yahoo.com, or Hugh Dugan at 610-554-4864 or hdugan@ptd.net.

Completed applications may be mailed to Lehighton Education & Athletic Foundation, c/o Awards Selection Committee, P.O. Box 370, Lehighton, PA 18235. They may also be dropped off at the Larry Markley Insurance Agency. The deadline for nomination is March 30. A submitted application will remain as an active nomination for a period of two years.

Three to five nominees are selected each year, with no more than two members selected posthumously per year.

A seven-person committee consisting of educators, businessmen and professionals will select the nominees to be inducted. Nominees selected for membership will be notified by April 30. For more information on the selection process, visit the LEAF website.

Selected inductees will be honored during a reception at the Lehighton American Legion. They will also have plaques placed on the Graduates of Distinction Wall of Honor display located at the entrance to the Elementary Center gymnasium.
