Walnutport Playground Association Carnival likely canceled

A popular summer carnival in Walnutport isn’t likely to be held this year. Robert Treskot, chairman of the Walnutport Playground Association Carnival, informed borough council of the news on Thursday.

“It’s been a frustrating time the last two years,” Treskot said in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re probably not going to have the carnival.”

Treskot said he’s received calls about this year’s event, but “(I) have to tell them we’re not having it.”

“We’re losing people,” he said. “We don’t have the volunteers that we used to.”

Treskot said last year’s event was a real good year for the WPA.

The 46th annual event was held in July at the playground on Lincoln Avenue after a one-year hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic. Treskot, who became treasurer of the event in 1986, helped run last year’s carnival alongside Gale Husack, assistant chairperson, and Brian Filchner, president of the WPA.

The carnival supports the association’s girls and boys softball and baseball programs.
