A Tamaqua driver was cited after he struck a parked vehicle on East Broad Street early Friday morning in icy conditions.

Witnesses reported that the driver of a pickup truck struck a car around 2:30 a.m. Friday, and then drove away. The crash pushed the car partly onto the sidewalk.

On Saturday, 45-year-old James Benderawicz contacted Tamaqua Police and reported that he was driving the vehicle involved in the crash. Benderawicz told police he left the scene because he wanted to get the damaged vehicle back to his house, and did not immediately report it because he did not have cellphone service.

Benderawicz will be cited for careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, and accidental damage to unattended vehicle or property.
