A 71-year-old woman is dead as a result of a fall near the Glen Onoko falls. The incident began around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning when a call came in of an injured hiker on the trail at the Glen Onoko falls. Rescue crews from five communities responded to the scene to assist in the treacherous rescue operation.

The trails are still washed out from severe storms from two years ago plus are now covered with ice. Firefighters carried the victim down off the mountain as Lehighton paramedics worked to save her life.

A state police forensic team is now on site investigating the death.

Reportedy the victim was part of a group of about 15 from New Jersey.
