Lehighton qualifies for districts

The Lehighton girls basketball team won its regular season finale on Friday to earn a spot in the District 11 tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PM East-Lehighton

Lehighton clinched a district playoff berth with a come-from-behind 41-36 non-league victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Emma Repsher drilled a final quarter three-pointer, and Charli McHugh hit five free throws in the period as the Indians overcame a 32-26 deficit to extend their season.

Aaliyah Fisher had 13 points to lead Lehighton (11-11). Hailey Miller added nine points.

Zoe Cruz and Jayla South had nine points apiece for the Cardinals (6-15).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Nativity

Marian pushed defending PIAA State Champion Nativity to the limit before the Hilltoppers pulled out a 56-50 Schuylkill League victory.

The Nativity win forces a playoff with Shenandoah, a 64-47 winner over Schuylkill Haven last night, for the Division 3 title and a berth in the league playoffs.

The Hilltoppers’ Marquis Ratcliff posted a game-high 23 points, while Cody Miller added 15 points.

Frank Valente led the Colts with a double-double, as he netted a team-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Brendan Lonergan added eight points.

Marians slips to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in the league, while Nativity improves to 17-5 and 12-1.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

A second half outburst broke open a close game and propelled Pottsville to a 69-46 Schuylkill League win over visiting Tamaqua.

Connor Dillon led the Blue Raiders with 16 points, while Nathan Gregoire chipped in with 10 points.

The Tides’ Darren Yost led all scorers with 20 points.

Tamaqua ends the season at 7-15 overall and 4-10 in the league. Division 1 champ Pottsville moves to 15-6 overall and 13-1 in league play.

Kadin Styka sparked the Golden Bears (7-13 overall; 6-6 SL) with a game-high 13 points.

Frankie Willis paced the Wreckers (1-17; 0-11) with 12 points, while Jayden Eubanks added eight points.

Bangor rallied for a 55-38 non-league victory over Pleasant Valley.

Jarod Moore had 10 points, while Donald Francois, Jr. added eight for the Bears, who led 16-4 after one quarter.

The Slaters’ Ashton Kluska led all scorers with 17 points.

Pleasant Valley falls to 4-16 overall, while Bangor improves to 12-10.

9TH GRADE

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Lehighton capped an extremely successful season with a 50-16 win over Panther Valley.

Blake Roberts scored 12 points and Cole Dietz added 10 to lead the Indians, who finished the season with a 16-1 record.

Brody Breiner paced the Panthers with six points.

8TH GRADE

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Weatherly defeated Panther Valley, 43-33.

Jacob Tom had 15 points to lead the Wreckers. Corbin Wagner and Nico Saldukes added 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Panthers’ Brody Breiner led all scorers with 20 points.

7TH GRADE

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Panther Valley topped Weatherly, 31-24.

Jehona Bushati led the Panthers with 11 points. Kaiden Koerber added 10 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

For Weatherly Ray Montz and Kaiden Werner scored seven points each.
