A Carbon County driver was involved in a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 4 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Route 61 and Shoemakersville Road in Perry Township, Berks County.

State police at Hamburg said Mary K. Bednarik, 57, of Shoemakersville, was stopped on Shoemakersville Road in a 2010 Chevrolet Impala at a posted stop sign. Jobina Coniglio, 43, of Nesquehoning, was driving a 2021 Volkswagen Cross Sport northbound on 61.

Troopers said Bednarik traveled onto 61 without yielding the right-of-way to Coniglio. Coniglio’s vehicle struck the left side of Bednarik’s vehicle.

Bednarik was taken to the Reading Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Coniglio was taken to the Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg, where she was treated and later released.

Troopers said the investigation into the cash is ongoing.
