Carbon County court
A Slatington woman entered guilty pleas in three pending criminal cases recently in Carbon County court.
She was one of 14 defendants in pending cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Franklin incidents
Alyssa Marie Dilemme, 29, pleaded to two counts of theft of services and one of fleeing or attempting to elude police. All the charges stem from incidents in Franklin Township filed by township police.
She was charged with the theft of services for incidents at the Country Inn & Suites along Interchange Road. The incidents occurred on Aug. 18, 2020, and Nov. 19, 2020. She used a room at the inn without permission or not paying for it. The fleeing and eluding occurred on Oct. 29, 2020, along Interchange Road when she fled police after they were called to the inn.
Dilemme has been an inmate in the county prison since her arrest.
Matika placed her on probation for a total of two years and ordered her to make total restitution to the inn for $567.03 and $579 in the fleeing incident for damages. She was also ordered to render 100 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and supply a DNA sample.
She will not be released from custody as it was noted there is a detainer filed against her from Montgomery County for other criminal matters.
Lewd communication
Nader Naguib Farag, 47, of Allentown, entered a guilty plea to one count of harassment - lewd threatening communication. In exchange for the plea, a felony 3 count of corruption of minors was dropped along with another harassment charge.
He was arrested by state police at Lehighton on May 29, 2021, for an incident along Penn Avenue in Lower Towamensing Township. The arrest information states that he asked a then 14-year-old girl to take her clothes off and be naked in front of him.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 50 hours of community service and have no contact with the victim.
Other pleas
Alec Wilhelm Buchman, 26, of West Hazleton, pleaded to a felony 3 count of criminal use of a communication facility. In exchange for the plea, felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy to PWID were dropped.
He was arrested on March 24, 2021, by Weatherly police as part of an ongoing drug distribution investigation.
Matika placed him on probation for two years and ordered he render 100 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and supply a DNA sample.
Bryan Paul Braker, 28, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police and accident causing damage to an attended vehicle/property. The fleeing charge was downgraded from a felony 3 to a misdemeanor 1 in a plea deal.
He was arrested on Aug. 14, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Bank Street in Bowmanstown. The fleeing and eluding started near the Parryville exit on Route 248 and ended in Bowmanstown.
He was placed on probation for a total of 18 months and ordered to render 75 hours of community service.
Candice Marie Stoudt, 43, of Slatington, pleaded to two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was arrested on Sept. 9, 2020, by Lehighton police. She was originally charged with 11 counts with five felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance dropped in a plea deal.
She is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.
Matika sentenced her to time-served (66 days) to 23 months in prison on each count with the turns running concurrently and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 75 hours of community service.
Kenneth James Shafer, 33, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 3, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Bank Street in Bowmanstown following a vehicle stop. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea deal.
He was placed on probation for nine months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service and get a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Becky S. Simes, 40, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property with a retail theft charge dropped in a plea deal.
She was arrested on Aug. 12, 2021, by Palmerton police at the Family Dollar Store.
Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution of $49.50 (it was noted it has already been paid), to supply a DNA sample and to stay out of the store during the probation period. The restitution is her share in the total theft as there is a co-defendant in the case.
Nicholas Michael Mitcho, 26, of Beaver Meadows, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct and a summary offense of operation on property without consent. A felony 3 count of fleeing and eluding police was dropped in a plea deal.
He was arrested on Dec. 18, 2021, by Weatherly police for an incident along Plane Street and the operation of an all-terrain vehicle.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service. On the summary offense he was fined $50 and costs.
Ryan Daniel Sernak, 25, of McAdoo, pleaded to one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police and summary offenses of operation on streets or highways; private real property; reckless driving; and duties at stop signs.
He was charged in the same incident as Mitcho.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service. On the summary offenses he was fined a total of $325 and costs.
Paul Anthony Jr., 57, of White Haven, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence. He was arrested on July 6, 2021, by Kidder Township police along Moseywood Road. A test revealed a 0.28 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred so he could apply for the house arrest program.
Jake Tyler Connors, 23, of Mount Pocono, pleaded to one count of resisting arrest. He was arrested on Jan. 3, by Kidder Township police for an incident at the Comfort Inn along Route 940. Police were called to the inn for a report of a male dragging a female by the hair in a hallway. In a plea deal a felony 2 count of strangulation was dropped.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Todd M. Hartranft, 62, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a charge of possession of a controlled substance dropped in a plea deal.
He was arrested on Dec. 28, 2021, by Palmerton police in the 500 block of Delaware Avenue.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Corey Adam Fenstermaker, 30, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor 2. The count was downgraded from a felony 3. He was charged by state police for the theft of Snap-on tools from a location in Parryville.
Sentencing was deferred.
Javon Malike Holland, 22, of Binghamton, New York, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on May 8, 2021, by state police at Lehighton in Kidder Township in the area of the Hickory Run State Park.
He was fined $150 and costs.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on probation or parole.
