Schuylkill sheriff getting new vehicles

The Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department is getting two new vehicles.

Commissioners approved a five-year lease/purchase of two 2022 Ford Police interceptor SUVs from New Holland Auto Group. The vendor is CoStars, a state purchasing program, approved. The lease is through Mauch Chunk Trust in Jim Thorpe. Cost of the vehicles is $93,423.86.

Sheriff Joe Groody said the two vehicles will replace cars that are 14 years old and have more than 100,000 miles. They will go to the Schuylkill Transportation System location with other county vehicles to be auctioned off. Groody said “only God knows” when the department will receive the SUVs due to the pandemic.
