An Effort man has been charged with assaulting a woman.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Jonathan Lazarchick of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Carl Cirillo:
At 8:34 a.m. on Jan. 18, troopers from PSP Fern Ridge arrived at a home in the 1300 block of Grand Mesa Drive, Chestnuthill Township, for a report of a domestic incident.
The victim was outside crying and said she and the man, Cirillo, 61, had an argument.
While seated in a recliner in the living room area as she attempted to take her prescribed medication, Cirillo grabbed the victim by her face and broke her glasses. She said Cirillo hit her in the mouth, loosening teeth.
She said when she called 911, Cirillo left in a blue 2011 Ford Escape.
Police located the SUV traveling west on North Rocky Mountain Drive approaching Shenandoah Trail, Chestnuthill Township and took Cirillo into custody.
Cirillo told police he uses Oxycodone and Xanax, and that he last used his medication the morning of the incident. Troopers saw he had eyelid tremors. He consented to a blood test.
Cirillo faces charges of simple assault; recklessly endangering another person; driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance; harassment; criminal mischief; careless driving; and reckless driving.
He is free on $15,000 unsecured bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Feb. 4 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
