Slatington woman victim of theft

A Slatington woman is the victim of a theft incident involving a check.

State police at Bethlehem said on Jan. 28 at 8:35 p.m. troopers were called to a residence along Opossum Lane, Washington Township, Lehigh County, for a theft incident. The 54-year-old victim told troopers she placed a check in her mailbox for her cable bill. An unknown criminal stole the check and forged it. The original amount of the check was changed to about $7,000, which was later withdrawn from her account.

Troopers said all residents within the Lehigh and Northampton counties area should be weary about mailing checks. There have been multiple forged check incidences within the past month. Some reports have been in regards to people retrieving checks from blue USPS postal boxes. Banks should also be weary about cashing checks that may seem forged or counterfeit.
