Lehighton man placed in house arrest program on three charges

A Lehighton man was placed in Carbon County’s house arrest program on three charges he previously entered guilty pleas.

Carl Taylor Crossley, 47, appeared Tuesday before Judge Joseph J. Matika on charges of felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and two driving under the influence charges.

He was arrested on the drug count on Nov. 15, 2019. State police at Hazleton executed a search warrant at a residence in Franklin Township following an ongoing investigation.

The two counts of DUI occurred on Sept. 11, 2020, filed by state police at Lehighton, following a stop along White Street in Weissport; and Feb. 4 by state police at Lehighton following a stop along Interchange Road in Franklin Township. Both counts are DUI of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to driving under suspension in both cases.

Crossley told the court, “I’m trying to straighten my life out. I’m trying to get things right.”

Matika placed him in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program, house arrest, for two years with the first six months on electronic monitoring, with credit for nine days served in prison.

On the first DUI count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year. On the second DUI he was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in jail, pay a fine of $1,500 and license suspended for an additional 18 months. On the two suspension counts he was fined a total of $1,500. The jail terms run concurrently and are part of the house arrest program.

He was also ordered to render 75 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of over $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
