State police at Fern Ridge - Crashes
State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:33 a.m. on Jan. 29 along Interstate 380 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Elanna J. Ladson, 22, of Mount Pocono, was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra northbound and due to slippery conditions the vehicle began to spin. The vehicle struck the guide rail off the right side of the road where it came to rest.
Ladson was not injured.
• One-vehicle crash was reported at 3:47 a.m. on Jan. 25 along Toll Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Erick M. Teixeira, 21, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2002 Audi A4 southbound and going downhill when he lost control. The vehicle went onto the left berm and traveled about 17 feet through the berm before striking a telephone pole. The vehicle continued about 12 feet before striking a road sign. The vehicle rolled over twice and came to final rest on its wheels facing west in the southbound lane.
Teixeira was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 25 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Jennifer L. Tavares, 40, of Effort, was driving a 2015 Honda CRV northbound in the left lane when her vehicle struck a deer that had entered onto the roadway. Tavares was not injured and damages were minor to the vehicle.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:09 a.m. on Jan. 24 along Merwinsburg Road in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Raymond A. Groff, 43, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer southbound and approaching Melody Lane, when he attempted to negotiate a left curve. Groff lost control of the vehicle which traveled 20 feet through the west berm and struck the guide rail. The vehicle became stuck on top of the guide rail causing disabling damages to the under carriage.
Groff was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.
He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 1:04 p.m. on Jan. 16 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Jacilyn R. Corley, 55, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country van and making a turn into a business parking lot when her vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle. The other driver then fled the scene. Corley was not injured and damages were minor to her vehicle.
A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:29 p.m. on Jan. 16 along Merwinsburg Road in Chestnuthill Township.
• Troopers said Lisbeth Munez, 42, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2014 Nissan Murano southbound and was traveling too fast for conditions around a curve as it was snowing heavily at the time, troopers said. She applied her brakes and her vehicle began to cross over into the northbound lane and struck a 2018 Honda CRV, driven by Leslie C. Ripoli, 29, of Kunkletown, head-on.
Ripoli was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg. No other injuries were reported.
Both vehicles had to be towed. West End Fire Company and ambulance volunteers assisted at the scene.
Nunez was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
• Another hit-and-run was reported on Jan. 14 at 12:20 p.m. along Route 903 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Joseph J. McDevitt, 55, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2019 Ford Ecosport southbound and stopped for a traffic light at the intersection with Route 534. Another vehicle was also southbound and fleeing police at the time when the vehicle struck the driver’s side of McDevitt’s vehicle. After impact the other driver continued fleeing police. The hit-and-run vehicle was a 2007 Chrysler 300.
McDevitt was not injured. Troopers did not indicate if the fleeing driver was apprehended.
• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 4:10 a.m. on Jan. 9 along Stoney Hollow Road, in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Zachary R. Scheetz, 23, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2018 Ford Taurus southbound and swerved to avoid a deer. His vehicle went onto the berm and struck a utility pole, causing disabling damages.
Scheetz was not injured.
