Local groundhogs split on predictions

Schuylkill County residents can rejoice as Grover the Groundhog predicted an early spring.

Bob Evanchalk, a member of the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association, told what Grover said.

“On Feb. 2nd at 7:13 a.m. Grover’s shadow was not to be seen. So celebrate folks it’s a happy day as Grover announces spring is on the way.”

For a second year, Schnogadahl Sammi, a mounted groundhog, agreed with Punxsutawney Phil. He made a virtual forecast from Kunkletown, and is calling for more winter.

Bruce George, secretary of Groundhog Lodge No. 6 of Monroe County, said, “Sorry but six more weeks of winter, so keep the insulated underwear handy!”
