The new head of Palmerton has requested that a law enforcement measure return to its police department.

Mayor Don Herrmann told borough council on Thursday that he would like to see the bike patrol implemented.

“I believe the bike patrol would be (a great thing) for the community,” Herrmann said.

After the meeting, borough Manager Donna McGarry said the request went to the Public Safety Committee, which did not have a chance to review it.

The police department previously had a bike patrol that started up in June 2013 in an attempt to curtail mischief in the community.

It has since been discontinued.
