Monroe County plans aerial photos for tax adjustments

The Monroe County Commissioners have contracted Pictometry International Corp. to schedule the second round of aerial photos of Monroe County.

“Unfortunately, people have built since the reassessment and didn’t have permits, so Monroe County Assessors Office is doing a checkup, and for anyone who did not secure permits and report the changes after, they may be in for a surprise,” said Commissioner John Moyer.

Pictometry International Corp. is an aerial measurement company that uses three-dimensional aerial photographs to view high-resolution images of buildings in their entirety.

The pictures help Monroe County Assessors Office to know if a building has been added onto and if the sizes of the buildings and homes were correctly reported to the Assessment Office.

The total cost for both rounds for aerial photos is $120,000.

The second item on the agenda was a motion to approve a correction on the Dec. 29, 2021, Budget Adjustment Report.

A line item for the Office of Aging programs was incorrectly entered for $3,690 when the correct amount was $1,845.

The commissioners approved an Amend Motion 2022-8 to reflect the following correct amounts. The $3,690 was incorrectly listed as one line item and should have been split on two line items for the office of aging according to Chairwoman Sharon Laverdure.

“I like hearing that corrected amount much better than what it was before,” Commissioner John Christy said.
