A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges following a crash that was reported at 3:54 p.m. on Jan. 21 along Wild Cat Road in Walker Township, west of Tamaqua.

Troopers said Allen K. Meckes, 53, of Barnesville, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado truck westbound and attempting to negotiate a right curve. He subsequently under compensated the curve and entered the eastbound lane where his vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of a 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Brian E. Roberts, 55, of Tamaqua.

Troopers said Meckes fled the scene westbound with his truck leaving the road and striking a tree head-on about 4.9 miles from the original crash scene. Meckes was found to be under the influence and was taken to St. Luke’s Miners Campus, Coaldale, as a precaution. Roberts and a passenger were not injured.

Meckes is also facing a charge of driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

Both vehicles had to be towed.
