Bowmanstown council questioned over agenda item

A Bowmanstown man recently took borough council to task after a bed-and-breakfast was listed on the meeting agenda without any advance notification.

Resident Ben Price questioned council last week about Gypsies Suite Retreat, 422 Ore St., which was listed on council’s meeting agenda.

Price, who resides with Councilwoman Kara Scott at 422 Ore St., asked council why there was no prior notification that it would be on the meeting agenda.

He told council he would like to see the specific ordinance on which council planned to base its decisions on whether to actually assess those charges, as there had been no prior indication.

Price then insisted on a hearing in which he and Scott could be present with their attorney to learn exactly what the legal basis for the charges would be.

He asked council to see the exact language in the ordinance, and added council was not aware the topic was to be discussed at the meeting.

Further, Price told council that each meeting they pledge allegiance to the flag, and recite the words “justice for all.”

“I don’t think this is the attitude or relationship I’d like to have with the borough,” Price said. “I don’t think that any citizen here should have to tolerate that.”

Afterward, council said it would look into the situation.
