Lehighton Winter Farmers Market enjoying stellar run

A local farmers market in Lehighton continues to thrive.

The Lehighton Winter Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the Lehighton Recreation Center, 243 S. Eighth St.

It’s hosted by the Lehighton Downtown Partnership, which is part of the Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation.

Those who attend often enjoy a unique experience, as everything there is either homegrown, homemade or handmade, according to Bambi Elsasser, Lehighton Main Street Manager.

“We’re in the middle of the Winter Market right now supporting our small businesses and our local farmers and vendors,” Elsasser said. “It has been fantastic.”

Elsasser urged visitors to check out their numerous vendors: produce, baked goods, dairy products, meat, eggs, poultry, gifts, honey, dog treats, crafts and more.

“With all the costs going up in grocery stores, getting fresh from the farm is sometimes more affordable,” she said. “It’s so important for all our local farmers; without our farmers, there is no food.”

Elsasser said the event started back up in October, and since then has enjoyed a stellar run.

“The farmers and the vendors said they saw many new faces,” she said.

“They’re very happy with it.”

The event is open from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Saturdays of the month through May 14.

Elsasser said the summer market will start up on May 21 and feature a huge crafts show in the Lehighton Lower Park.
