State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at Frackville reported on crashes in Schuylkill County:

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:50 a.m. on Jan. 7 along Route 54, at Elm Avenue, in Ryan Township. Troopers said Jeremy Zink, 56, of New Boston, was driving a 2008 Honda Pilot eastbound on 54 while John M. Bales, 62, of Barnesville, was driving a 2009 Toyota 4Runner southbound on Elm Avenue. Bales attempted to stop his vehicle for a posted stop sign at the intersection when he lost control due to snow and slippery road conditions. His vehicle entered the intersection and hit the driver’s side of Zink’s vehicle.

Zink was treated at the scene by Ryan Township ambulance personnel.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 8:49 p. m. on Jan. 7 along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Christopher F. Kristoff, 22, of Pottsville, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze southbound in the left lane and negotiating a right curve. His vehicle left the road and traveled onto the median before impacting with an embankment. The impact caused the Cruze to go airborne and back into the left lane where it came to rest.

Kristoff complained of back pain and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus, by Mahanoy City ambulance. He was cited for careless driving.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported on Interstate 81 in Kline Township at 11:51 p.m. on Jan. 6. Troopers said Aneury Aragonez Cabrera, 28, of Hazleton, and James A. Jensen, 58, of Pen Yan, New York, were both northbound when Aragonez Cabrera lost control of his 2012 Honda Civic was passing Jensen due to the snow-covered road. The Civic began to spin and slide across the two lanes. Jensen attempted to avoid a collision but his 2000 Kenworth Northwest tractor struck the rear of the Civic.

No one was injured. The Honda had to be towed. Aragonez Cabrera was cited for the crash.

• A crash occurred at 12:13 p.m. on Dec. 30 along Route 309 in Rush Township, at Mahanoy Avenue.

Troopers said Jason J. Malchiodi, 43, of Tamaqua, was southbound driving a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country, in the right lane while Phillip Driscoll, 81, of Bloomsburg, driving a 2012 Toyota Rav4, was southbound directly in front of Malchiodi.

Driscoll began to slow down due to traffic ahead and his vehicle was struck in the rear by Malchiodi’s vehicle.

Troopers said Malchiodi failed to stop and fled southbound into Tamaqua where he was eventually stopped by borough police.

Malchiodi’s was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. No one was injured.
