Monroe County Commissioners
Monroe County Commissioners conducted the following business recently:
• The board awarded a contract with Superheat, in the amount of $8,302.59, to replace a defective heat pump in the Assessment Office. This was the lowest of two quotes.
• The board entered an agreement with RKR Hess to manage the 2022-2024 Bridge Deck Cleaning and Vegetation Control Program for the county bridges, at a total estimated amount not to exceed $37,000.
• Entered an agreement with Francis Y. Freeman, Ph.D., to perform interim education and counseling services, as it relates to the reentry and recidivism to inmates at the Monroe County Correctional Facility at $20 per hour.
Warden Gary Haidle explained the correctional facility is down two employees in the counseling department and they are interviewing for the positions.
“It isn’t that the facility has more inmates needing counseling, it is because when the inmates come in, we have to evaluate them to make sure they don’t have any issues when they come in to the facility. If they do we can get them into a treatment plan quickly,” Haidle said, as required by the courts. “It is simply to try to make sure the inmates are getting the care they need.”
• The commissioners executed the following purchase agreements for the period of July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.
Children’s Service Center of Wyoming Valley Inc., $50,000; The Children’s Home of Easton Inc., $300,000 (subject to an updated insurance certificate); Community Solutions Inc., $140,000; Alternative Living Solutions, $150,000; New Way Youth Services, $150,000; CHOR Youth & Family Services, $225,000.
• Executed the 2020-2021 Fourth Quarter Juvenile Probation Office Title IV-E Claim, Revision 1 in the amount of $19,017.69.
• The commissioners appointed Joni Oye-Benintende to the Eastern Monroe Public Library Board of Directors, Replacing Kate Neville.
• Appointed Roger McFadden to the Monroe County Planning Commission Board of Directors, replacing JoEllen Chadwick. McFadden will serve from Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2025.
• Appointed to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Advisory Board: Chris Grape-Garvey, Kandia Palmer, Norm Krasne-Levine, and Rosemary Brown, through Dec. 31, 2022.
• Reappointed to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Advisory Board were Charles Cahn, Emily Daly and Carrie Wetherbee, serving through Dec. 31, 2024.
