Storm forecast: Snow changing to freezing rain

A winter storm warning remains in effect from 6 p.m. today to noon Monday.

Heavy mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to three tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Precipitation is expected to start as snow before changing to a wintry mix and eventually freezing rain

overnight. Precipitation will turn back to snow late Monday morning.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has issued the following restrictions:

Effective at 11 p.m., vehicle restrictions are planned for the following roadways at Tier 3 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan:

I-81 north of I-84;

I-84; and

I-380.

0n roadways with Tier 3 restrictions in place, no commercial vehicles are permitted EXCEPT loaded single trailers with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices. Additionally, all school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motor homes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted on affected roadways while restrictions are in place.
