The Jim Thorpe, Northwestern and Marian girls’ basketball teams all recorded victories on Friday.

Palmerton also picked up a win in boys’ basketball action.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rolled to a 49-23 Schuylkill League win over Pottsville to stay unbeaten.

Olivia Smelas led the Olympians (10-0) with 16 points. Skyler Searfoss and Leah Snisky scored nine points apiece while Leila Hurley added eight points.

Olivia Peleschak had eight points for the Tide (5-4).

Northwestern erupted in the third quarter and cruised to a 44-28 win over Moravian Academy in a Colonial League contest.

Brook Balliet hit four 3s and had 14 points for the Tigers (11-3), who trailed 15-14 at halftime but took control in the third period, outscoring the Lions 20-6. Cara Thomas scored 10 points as Northwestern won for the sixth-straight time.

Lorelei Plasha had a strong game for the Blue Raiders (4-6) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Serena Jones added nine points.

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Matt Machalik erupted for 28 points to lead Palmerton to a 55-43 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

The game was tied at 31-31 entering the fourth quarter, but behind 12 points from Machalik and six from Zack Anthony the Bombers pulled away.

Brayden Hosier added 12 points for Palmerton, which improved to 6-4 in league play and 10-4 overall.

Damian Tyminski led Pen Argyl (1-9, 2-12) with 17 points.

Austin Smyth’s 10 points paced the Bulldogs (2-11, 1-8).

Blue Mtn.-Weatherly

Weatherly used a 24-0 run over two-and-a-half quarters and eased past Blue Mountain, 39-9.

DeAnna Pugh and Kelly Reiner pumped in 18 and 13 points, respectively, while Abby Binder netted six in the win.
