Local roundup: Results from Jan. 14

The Marian boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both recorded victories on Thursday, while Panther Valley’s boys basketball team also scored a win.

Elsewhere, Northern Lehigh picked up a win in wrestling action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Schuylkill Haven-Marian

Marian turned back Schuylkill Haven, 61-56, for its third straight win.

Brendan Lonergan led the Colts (6-2) with a game-high 24 points. Jose Espaillat-Turbi added 10 points. Julius Currie hit three treys in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points.

Nigel Kuzanga led the Hurricanes (3-9) with 17 points, while Jake Jenan added 15, and Leyden Hertz scored 11.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Chase Weaver’s perfect 14-for-14 performance at the foul line put Panther Valley over the top in a 52-50 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.

Eight of those made free throw attempts came in the fourth quarter, as it helped the Panthers (5-5, 2-4) escape with a close win at home.

Weaver went on to post a game-high 20 points, while Stephen Hood also netted double figures with 13 points.

Brandon Unger led the Cardinals’ (5-6, 2-4) with 17 points, while Dalton Geesey added 13.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley’s fourth-quarter rally fell a bit short, as Stroudsburg pulled out a 63-59 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

After trailing 47-39 entering the final period, the Bears (3-6 overall; 3-6 EPC) rallied for a 20-point fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough against the Mounties (6-8; 6-8).

Jared Moore led the Bears with 19 points, while Donald Fancois, Jr. followed with 18.

Stroudsburg’s Leo Kea finished with a game-high 21 points, while Qadir Mitchell and Eric Card ended up with 19 and 10 points, respectively.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Kade Henninger’s 43-point performance led Blue Mountain to a 70-32 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Henninger drained seven three-pointers on the night for the Eagles (8-3, 4-2). Carson Kertetter was the lone other individual in double figures, as he finished with 11 points.

Nathan Gregoire finished with a Blue Raiders’ (5-6, 3-3) high with seven points, while Luke Kane chipped in with six.

Ten different players scored, as Marian cruised to a 59-16 win over MMI Prep.

Kerrigan Digris paced the Fillies’ (7-3) attack with a team-high 10 points, while Fatikha Tikhtova just missed out on double digits herself with eight points.

The Preppers’ (0-5) Bria Kringe recorded a game-high with 12 points.

North Schuylkill rolled to a 63-30 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

The Spartans (9-1, 5-0) showed why they’re still undefeated in the Schuylkill League, as they took a 34-10 lead into half. Kamryn Mengel led all scorers with 20 points.

Trenyce Wingler and Serena Jones tied for a Blue Raiders’ (4-5, 1-5) best, as both went on to score eight points apiece.

Northwest Area pulled away for a 46-25 nonconference win against Weatherly.

The Wreckers (3-6 overall) kept it within reach, as the Rangers (8-4) took a 20-15 lead into half. But the hosts outscored the locals 26-10 the rest of the way.

The Rangers’ Morgan Hermanofski posted a game-high 17 points, while Charleigh Miner added 11.

Emma Kane and Brianna Pugh tied for a Wreckers’ high, as both recorded seven points.

Sam Frame’s pin at 285 pounds sealed the deal in the last match of the night, as Northern Lehigh secured a 31-21 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Austin Rex (126) and Bailey Smith (160) also added pins for the Bulldogs.

Northern Lehigh moves to 3-9 overall, while Salisbury falls to 0-5 on the season.

The Panthers’ Logan Fisher led all scorers with 24 points, while Connor Penberth and Brody Breiner recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Josh Astor 18 points, while Brian Gallagher contributed 10 points for Mahanoy Area.

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

Lehighton posted a 48-29 victory over North Schuylkill.

Cole Dietz hit six three-pointers and led the Tribe with 20 points.

Blake Roberts finished with 16 points, while Kieler Kemmerer chipped in with seven.

8TH Grade

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Pottsville defeated Panther Valley for a 43-15 win.

The Tides’ McGinley led all scorers with 13 points, while Herndon and Allen added seven and six points, respectively.

D. Wehr posted a Panthers’ high with seven points.

Weatherly-Blue Mountain

Weatherly edged Blue Mountain for a 40-31 victory.

The Wreckers’ Jacob Tom recorded a game-high 25 points, while Aiden Buck and Corbin Wagner both contributed six points.

Beck Henninger finished with 10 points for the Blue Eagles.

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Pottsville ran away with a 41-7 victory over Panther Valley.

The Tides’ Eroh led all scorers with eight points, while Bowman and Cleus both finished with six points.

H. Matula and B. Boretzki tied for a Panthers’ best, as both recorded three points.

Weatherly-Blue Mountain

Weatherly got the best of Blue Mountain for a 26-22 win.

The Wreckers’ Aiden Buck led all scorers with 12 points, while Dominic Kokinda finished with six.

Lucas Pritiskutch netted a Blue Eagles’ best with 10 points.
