A home was destroyed by fire early Thursday in East Penn Township.

The blaze was reported around 4 a.m. along Zeigler Lane off Route 895. A short time later a Carbon medic unit entered the turnpike enroute to the Lehigh Valley Hospital trauma center with a burn patient.

Firefighters were hampered with frigid temperatures and an ice-covered lane.

Fire companies from Carbon and Schuylkill countries responded to the scene.
