A Pottsville man has been charged with uploading child pornography at a residence in Tamaqua.

State police at Frackville said Troy P. McMunn, 35, has been charged with child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility. Troopers said the investigation was handled by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Computer Crime Unit.

Trooper Brian Kundick initiated an investigation in response to a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip and subsequent investigation revealed that a person located in the 300 block of Hazle Street in Tamaqua had uploaded a video of child pornography to Pornhub.com.

On April 4, 2021, the computer crime unit executed a search warrant at the McMunn’s residence on Hazle Street. Electronic devices belonging to the accused were seized for forensic examination.

Subscriber information for the IP address indicated an address in Tamaqua. A search warrant was issued by District Magistrate Stephen Bayer April 5, 2021, at the Tamaqua address where McMunn was found and said he lived at for about a year, documents show.

Kundick asked McMunn if he viewed pornography online. He said yes. He also confirmed to police he shared videos on Pornhub and clicked on a “mega link,” which had child pornography on it and shared the “mega links.”

He told police there was no child pornography on his phone despite police finding four video files and 11 files with “children under the age of 18” that were engaged in sex acts. The search uncovered videos and images depicting child pornography.

Trooper Kundick obtained an arrest warrant for McMunn and apprehended him on Tuesday. McMunn was arraigned by District Judge James K. Reiley, of Pottsville, and was remanded to Schuylkill County prison unable to post $20,000 cash bail.
