Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 11

The Jim Thorpe girls basketball team kept its perfect record intact with a victory on Tuesday.

The Olympians also scored a win in wrestling action, while both the Pleasant Valley boys and girls basketball teams posted victories.

Elsewhere, the Marian and Northwestern girls basketball teams also recorded wins.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Whitehall-Pleasant Valley

Donald Francois hit two key three-pointers in the second overtime to help lift Pleasant Valley to a 65-63 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Whitehall.

Francois Jr. finished with six 3s - in addition to three key free throws - in the final stanza to help PV rally. Patrick Moore added 20 points for the Bears (3-5 overall; 3-4 EPC), while Jarod Moore added double figures with 13.

Alex Derkits paced the Zephyrs (4-8; 4-8) with 17 points.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Skyler Searfoss posted a season-high 21 points to help Jim Thorpe remain unbeaten with a 52-38 Schuylkill League win over Blue Mountain.

Searfoss scored nine of her points in the opening quarter. Olivia Smelas added double digits for the Olympians (8-0 overall; 4-0 SL), as she posted 10 points in the victory.

Abby Beam paced the Blue Eagles (8-2; 2-2) with 10 points, while Ava Peel finished with nine points.

Fatikha Tikhtova’s 17-point performance highlighted Marian’s 44-35 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Tikhtova posted 10 of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter, while she added five more in an important run in the fourth. Ashley Pleban followed with nine points for the Fillies (6-3, 2-1), while Carly Minchoff and Kerrigan Digris both finished with eight.

Caelan Quick recorded 12 points for Nativity (3-5, 2-2), while Kamryn Abdo added 11.

Pleasant Valley pulled away to claim a 31-21 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Whitehall.

Sam Merklin recorded six of her game-high 13 points in the final quarter for the Bears (6-2), while Katelyn Honadel was 3-for-4 at the foul line in the final stanza and finished with nine points.

Ciara Rogers led the Zephyrs (1-8) with eight points.

The Golden Bears (4-3; 4-0) jumped out to a comfortable start with a 14-4 opening quarter, and never looked back. Allyson Babinsky scored a game-high 15 points for Mahanoy, while Hannah Kane added 11.

Bethany Houser paced the Wreckers (3-5; 0-3) with 13 points, while Brianna Pugh chipped in with seven.

The host Golden Bears earned a 99-70 victory over the Blue Raiders in girls action, while the visiting Blue Raiders cruised to a 86-30 win in the boys meet.

Gabby Blasko (500 freestyle) posted a win for the Raiders, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Rylee Wenzel, McKenna Ehrig, Isabella Jones, and Maura Walker also posted a victory.

Jathan Krall (200 Free), Vincenzio Valentine (200IM), Stephen Behun (100 Free), Jack Tharp (500 Free) and Brandon Long (100 Backstroke) all earned first-place finishes in the boys competition.
