Coaldale is looking for new tax collector

Several employment opportunities have opened with the Borough of Coaldale which were discussed at the council meeting on Tuesday.

Council voted to accept the resignation of the borough’s tax collector, Cathy Papesh, who will resign as of Jan. 15 due to personal health reasons. The borough is now accepting letters of interest from anyone interested in the two-year position. Letters must be received by the borough by Jan. 31, and council will then meet to look them over.

Borough solicitor Robert T. Yurchak said the borough needs to fill the position within 30 days of Papesh’s last day, Jan. 15.

Council also voted to advertise for seasonal workers within the borough to help with snowblowers, shoveling, and snow and ice clearing for the Borough Hall and for the Coaldale Complex. The pay rate will be $15 an hour.

Council is looking for someone to fill the position of working team lead for the Streets Department. The candidate will be responsible for helping to maintain borough-owned properties; sidewalks, cleaning the buildings, blacktopping, small engine repair, basic carpentry, helping with sewer issues, grass cutting, plumbing, some electrical and more.

All employment questions should be directed to the Coaldale Borough, 221 Third St., Coaldale PA 18218, 570-645-6310.

Council voted to hire Chad Warman and Lee Stroup, pending the passing of their background checks, to serve as plow drivers for the borough.
