New Ringgold OKs 2.5-mill tax increase

Taxes and sewer rates were hiked in New Ringgold.

The borough council voted Dec. 29 to up taxes 2.5 mills or about $20 per household for 2022, Council President Larry Padora said. A mill represents about $3,000 for the borough.

In addition, the sewer fees were raised $10 a month to $75. However, there is a 5% discount if paid by Jan. 31.

Padora previously cited increasing costs for mandated testing by the State Department of Environmental Protection and higher chemical prices as the reason for the increase in sewer fees. The borough will need do daily testing in two years. Right now, the borough tests every other day.

A request for bidders for the sale of the borough dam in East Brunswick was not successful. The council was trying to sell the dam to “save our sewage treatment plant,” Padora said.

He said the council might rebid the dam.
