State police at Schuylkill Haven crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Route 61, at the intersection with Paramount Boulevard, in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Janet M. Kramer, 77, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2009 Dodge Caravan southbound and proceeded through the intersection with the green light while attempting a left turn onto Paramount. Mary L. Stout, 74, of Pottsville, driving a 2017 Subaru Forester, was northbound and traveled through the intersection on a green light. Troopers said Kramer failed to yield to oncoming traffic and her vehicle was struck by Stout’s on the passenger side.

Kramer was injured and taken to St. Luke’s-Geisinger Hospital, Orwigsburg. Stout was not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 3:08 a.m. on Dec. 27 along Route 209 in Branch Township. Troopers said Jared A. Yoder, 20, of Branchdale, was driving a 2009 Kia Spectra southbound when his vehicle struck a deer that had entered the road. After impact, the vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole.

Yoder was not injured, but the vehicle had to be towed.

• Another crash occurred on Route 209 in Branch Township at 10:46 a.m. on Dec. 31 involving three vehicles.

Troopers said Michael D. Wood, 67, of Branchdale, was stopped in a 2007 Ford Focus in the northbound lane at the intersection with Diamond Street, waiting for opposing traffic to clear so he could turn left. Rachel M. Bainbridge, 32, of Minersville, driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, was stopped behind Wood. Braydin R. Nettles, 20, of Pottsville, was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler northbound, and going too fast for wet road conditions. He was unable to stop. His vehicle striking the rear of Bainbridge’s vehicle pushing it into the rear of Wood’s vehicle.

Bainbridge suffered a minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville. The other two drivers were not injured. The Cherokee was towed.

Nettles was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed, following too closely and failure to notify change of address.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:58 p.m. on Dec. 28 along Route 183 in Cressona. Troopers said Angel L. Ayala, 52, of Minersville, was attempting to turn left from River Street onto 183 when his 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Sydne Q. Sorace, 18, of Auburn, who was westbound on 183.

No one was injured. Both vehicles were towed.

• A driver is facing a driving under the influence charge following a crash on Dec. 23 at 6:49 p.m. along East Mill Street in Pine Grove. Troopers said Wanda S. Everett, 67, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze when she turned left from South Tulpohocken Street onto East Mill Street. Her vehicle struck the rear of a parked 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. Everett was not injured. The Cruze had to be towed.

Troopers said she showed signs of impairment and a DUI charge is pending test results.

• Matthew Evely, 29, of Mahanoy City, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 7:57 p.m. Dec, 13 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

Police said he was driving a 2007 Nissan Murano southbound when he failed to use a designated “jughandle” turn lane that directs traffic from Route 61 to Route 443. Instead, the driver attempted a left turn from the left travel lane of Route 61, causing the Murano to be struck by a 2019 Nissan Rogue driven northbound by Brandon E. Strouphaver, 38, of Pine Grove.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
