2022 reorganization: Summit Hill borough council

Summit Hill Borough Council reorganized on Tuesday with no changes in leadership.

Michael Kokinda was re-elected president and William O’Gurek was renamed vice president, both by unanimous votes. David Wargo was named president pro tem, meaning he presides over council if both the president and vice president are absent.

This is approximately the 10th term that Kokinda served as the president.

There was one change made. The monthly meeting dates were changed to the second Tuesday of each month with the exception of November, when it will be held the second Wednesday because of a conflict with Election Day.

The meetings start at 7 p.m.

The council will hold its first monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the borough hall.

There is one vacancy on the council.

In this past November’s general election, O’Gurek won both a four-year and a two-year term on the council. He announced that he would keep the four-year term and resign from the two-year seat.

The council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 to fill the seat and for general purposes.

Anyone interested in filling the two-year term on the council should submit a letter of interest by 4 p.m. on Jan. 24.

The meeting began with newly elected Mayor Jeffrey Szczecina swearing in three council members and a constable.

Council members O’Gurek, Michael Alabovitz and Joseph Weber all remain on the panel.

The new constable is Brian Dolena.

The council agreed to the following appointments:

• Kira Steber will be retained as secretary-treasurer. In addition, she also serves as garbage fee collector, administrative officer for the police and borough pension fund and administrative officer for the borough’s Community Development Block Grant and Home Grant monies.

• Attorney Robert Frycklund was retained as borough solicitor at the rate of $100 per hour.

• The Jim Thorpe National Bank and PLGIT will continue being the depositories for borough funds.

• Todd Woodward was named chief of police for 2022.
