Local Sports Roundup: Results from Dec. 28

Northern Lehigh won the consolation game at the Slatington Rotary Tournament on Tuesday. The Tamaqua boys basketball team also recorded a win.

Elsewhere, several area wrestling teams are enjoying success at holiday tournaments.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh pulled away for a 51-48 victory against Lehighton in the consolation game of the annual Slatington Rotary Christmas Tournament thanks to a solid offensive effort in the second half.

After trailing 21-17 at half, the Bulldogs (2-5) outscored the Indians 34-26 the rest of the way to capture third place.

Aiden Parvel and Izaiah Ramos both scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.

Jack Lorenz scored 16 points for the Indians (1-7), while Mason Costenbader finished with 11 points.

Tamaqua took advantage of a slow start by Schuylkill Haven to run away with a 54-36 win.

Nathan Gregoire led all scorers with 15 points, while Connor Dillon added 10 for the Raiders (3-4).

Jake Jenan and Demontae Watson-Henry both had nine points for the Hurricanes.

M’brook Christian

Weatherly opened play at the Columbia-Montour AVTS Tournament with a 45-38 setback to Meadowbrook Christian.

The Wreckers kept pace with the Lions in the opening frame, in which it ended up tied. However, the Lions outscored the locals 32-20 over the next two quarters to pull away for the win.

Aston Canelo posted a game-high 19 points, while Gabe Rodriguez chipped in with 16 points for the Lions.

Frankie Willis scored 13 points for the Wreckers, while Jayden Eubanks followed in double figures with 12 points.

Jim Thorpe Tournament

The first day of the Jim Thorpe Tournament was a successful one for area wrestlers.

Gabe Heaney (152), Camron Tinajero (160), Jared Newhall (172) and Caleb McDermott (189) all advanced to semifinal matches for the Olympians. Gabe Erbe (113) also moved on to the semis for the Blue Raiders.

Ridge Snyder (126), Nikolas Schwartz (138), and Maximus Fitzpatrick (172) all will represent Jim Thorpe in Wednesday’s consolation brackets. Meanwhile, Aiden Schlier (106), Levi Kunkel (106), Matt Hedrick (138), Nathan Mikovits (152) and Cole Eberts (172) are back for the Tamaqua in the consolation round.

Lehighton at Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament

Lehighton posted a fifth-place finish as a team in the Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament with 64 points.

Jacob Hall (106) and Aiden Gruber (120) captured third-place finishes, while Nolan Stein (172) and Deven Armbruster (189) recorded fourth-place results.

Northwestern at Bethlehem Holiday Wresting Classic

Northwestern’s Dalton Clymer is in the hunt for a championship in the 160-pound weight class at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic. Clymer will square off with Parkland’s Adrian Gacek in the semifinals.

Lucas Miller (172) and Noah Schlofer (215) will return for the Tigers in consolation matches.

Pleasant Valley at

Bob Rohm Tournament

Pleasant Valley traveled to Bloomsburg University to take part in the Bob Rohm Memorial Tournament.

The Bears went winless (0-4) on the day, as they dropped setbacks to eventual champion Cumberland Valley (61-6), Mifflinburg (30-27), Central Columbia (32-24) and Bloomsburg (31-29).

BOYS BASKETBALL

9TH GRADE

Panther Valley-Marian

Connor Penberth’s 20-point performance led Panther Valley to a 56-24 victory over Marian.

Penberth netted a game-high six three-pointers, while Brody Briener followed with five threes and finished with 19 points. Logan Fisher added double digits with 12 points.

Bryan Ferrid led the Colts with 11 points.

8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Berwick

Jacob Tom scored a game-high 21 points to lead Weatherly to a 48-15 win over Berwick.

Aiden Buck and Nico Saldukis both added 10 points.

7TH GRADE

Weatherly-Berwick

Berwick edged Weatherly, 27-26.

Aiden Buck led the Wreckers with 12 points.
