Advent series

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is having a final presentation in the Advent series on Mass by Father Bob tonight, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and then Father’s presentation at 6 p.m.

Festival of Lights

According to the website for the Carbon County Fair, the Festival of Lights at the West End Fair in Gilbert will end Thursday.

It will then reopen on Dec. 26 and possibly continue through Dec. 30, depending on weather.

There is an admission fee for those 3 and older.

Post closing

The American Legion Post 927 will close its doors at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and will be closed all day Christmas Day.

Christmas services

• Cornerstone Community Church, Kresgeville, is having its Christmas Eve services at 5 and 7 p.m.

• Effort UMC will be holding four services this year for Christmas Eve: 4 p.m., early service; 6 p.m., family service with live Nativity; 8 p.m., Christmas Celebration service; and 11 p.m., a service of lessons and carols.

In the case of inclement weather, information on church service cancellations will be posted on the church Facebook page as well as 93.5 WSBG, www.effortumc.org and a message on the church telephone.

• McMichaels UMC will hold its Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.

The Sunday worship service is on Facebook every week beginning at 9:30 a.m. but can be viewed any time for several weeks.

• Middlecreek Christian, Kresgeville, is having a Christmas Eve service at 5:30 p.m.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will have Mass at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Christmas Eve and 11 a.m. Christmas Day. There will be no 4 p.m. Mass on Christmas Day.

On Sunday, the church will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. (livestreamed) and 3 p.m. in Spanish.

• Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Brodheadsville, will hold its Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.

• Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will have its Christmas Eve services at 2:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., with carols and Holy Communion.

• Salem UCC, Gilbert, will have an old-fashioned congregation-involved service at 7:30 p.m. with lots of caroling and more.

• St. John’s Lutheran, Merwinsburg Road, Effort, will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Tom Richards. The Auxiliary at St. John’s recently prepared 25 Christmas gift bags for children of veterans through Valor.

Previously they also prepared bags for male and female veterans, which were greatly appreciated.

• St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will have three services on Christmas Eve. At 3 p.m. there will be an early Christmas Eve service with Communion. At 7 p.m., the church will celebrate a Country Christmas Eve worship with Communion with the Cramers and friends. A nursery for babies and children up to age 5 will be available. And then, at 10 p.m., it will be a traditional Christmas Eve lessons with carols service with Communion and candlelighting.

• St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, has announced its Christmas Eve candlelight service for 7 p.m. It will include carols, Scripture, special music and words of hope and expectation.

The Sunday service is at 10 a.m., preceded by Christian education classes at 9 a.m.

• Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is having candlelight worship services at 3:30 and at 7:30 p.m. Masks are required for in-person worship. The services will also be broadcast on Zion’s Facebook page.

Thrift store closed

The Eldred Township Thrift Store will be closed through Jan. 5. Normal operations will resume on Jan. 5.

Monday bingo

American Legion Post 927 will be open to the public to play bingo on Monday.

Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m., calling is at 7 p.m.

Polk meeting

The Polk Township Supervisors are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday for the budget adoption meeting and at 7 p.m. for other business.

Eldred office times

The Eldred Township office will be closed from Friday through Dec. 28, when normal office hours resume.

The office will also be closed Dec. 31, and will reopen on Jan. 3.

Winter repairs

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting home preservation applications from Monroe County homeowners for a variety of appliances including such items as washers and dryers, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, water heater and more.

To qualify one must own their own home for at least two years; have income that is not above the maximum amount, be up to date on mortgage and taxes and have homeowner’s insurance.

Grief Share

This group, which continues to offer support and comfort to those who have lost loved ones and meets at St. Peter’s UMC, will not meet on Dec. 26, but will resume meeting on Jan 2.
