PALMERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:

• Agreed to spend $20,100 to repair two of three sewer main breaks on Smith Avenue and the 700 block of Franklin Avenue.

• Agreed to repair a broken sewer line in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue with no cost associated with the work.

• Appointed Gregory Solensky as a fire company member.

• Recognized borough employees Sue Tartar (30 years); Todd Merkel (10); and Drew Cortright (five), Adam Shimer (five), and Shawn Leadbetter (five) for their years of service.

• Approved the following appointments to boards and commissions: Richard Kost, six-year term, Civil Service Commission; Brian Minnich, three-year term, zoning hearing board; Joseph Slovick, one-year term, zoning hearing board alternate; William Stribany, three-year term, shade tree commission; Thomas Vanderbeck, five-year term, municipal authority; William Gallagher and Chris Kegel, four-year term, planning commission; Eric Snyder, and Matthew Baumgardt, five-year term, UCC Board of Appeals; Greg Haas, five-year term, UCC Board of Appeals alternate; John Woginrich, one-year term, library board representative; Terry Mertz, one-year term, emergency management coordinator; Donna McGarry, one-year term, representative to Carbon County Tax Collection Committee and one-year term, alternate representative, Carbon County Council of Governments; Kris Hoffner, one-year term, representative, Carbon County Council of Governments; and Christopher Olivia, two-year term, council vacancy board.

• Approved a resolution for records disposal.

• Announced that residents may put their leaf collection out with their trash next week.

• Announced that borough council will hold its reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
