Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 14

The Northwestern and Northern Lehigh boys and girls basketball teams all picked up victories Tuesday.

The Jim Thorpe boys, along with the Palmerton and Tamaqua girls, also were victorious, while Lehighton posted a win in wrestling action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Jim Thorpe opened its regular season with a commanding 54-20 win over Schuylkill Haven.

The Olympians’ Kaiden Herron led all scorers with 18 points, while Derryl Fisher followed with 12.

Travis Richie led the Hurricanes (0-3) with nine points.

Northern Lehigh came away with a 43-35 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

The Bulldogs’ (1-2, 1-0) Aiden Parvel led all scorers with a 16-point performance, while Izaiah Ramos finished in double digits with 12 points.

Bryann Rivera led the Roughies (0-1) with 11.

Pen Argyl-N’western

Northwestern edged Pen Argyl 45-43 in a Colonial League contest.

The Tigers’ Dylan Witkowski led all scorers with 16 points, and had a 5-for-7 effort at the foul line down the stretch that keyed the win. Cade Christopher added 12 points for Northwestern (1-0; 1-0).

Jillian Pysher finished with a team-high 12 points for the Green Knights (1-2, 0-1).

Patrick Moore led the Bears (0-1) with 16 points, while Jarod Moore finished with 10.

Northwestern rallied for a 35-33 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

After trailing 17-15 at the half, the Tigers outscored the Green Knights 20-16 to secure the win.

Paige Sevrain posted a game-high 14 points for Northwestern (2-0; 1-0), while Rylee McGinley drained three three-pointers in the second half to finish with nine.

Jill Morro had 13 points to lead the Green Knights (1-2, 0-1).

Palmerton used a balanced attack to cruise to a 56-30 Colonial League win over Southern Lehigh.

The Bombers’ (2-0, 1-0) Brianna Moore netted a game-high 16 points, while Sydney Frantz recorded 11.

Hannah Barry (nine points), Megan Matsko (nine points) and Raegan Nemeth (eight points) also contributed in the win.

Danika Lewis paced the Spartans (0-2, 0-1) with 11 points.

Faith Colahan’s 20-point performance led Tri-Valley to a 55-21 victory over Panther Valley.

The Panthers (1-2) kept pace with the Bulldogs (2-1) for a quarter, trailing by just three points. Tri-Valley then used a 20-1 second period to pull away for the win.

The winners also received 11 points from Grace Header.

Maddison Maynard paced PV with 12 points.
