Local roundup: Results from Dec. 10

Tamaqua’s boys and girls basketball teams picked up season-opening victories on Friday, as did the Panther Valley and Weatherly girls.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Catasauqua-Tamaqua

Tamaqua overcame a slow start to post a 48-34 non-league win over Catasauqua on the opening night of the Lady Raider Tip-Off Tournament.

Kaziah Streisel had 16 points, including four three-pointers, and four assists for Tamaqua (1-0), which outscored the Roughies 33-11 over the second and third quarter after trailing 10-6.

Serena Jones added 11 points and six steals, while McKenna Meckes also scored 11 points and Gabby Robb pulled down nine rebounds.

The Raiders will face Executive Education Academy Charter School, which defeated the East Stroudsburg South 47-39, in the championship game.

Maddison Maynard scored a game-high 23 points for the Panthers (1-0). Sera Robin added 13 points in the win.

Karlee Feger led the Hurricanes with 11 points.

Hamburg advanced to the championship game of its Tip-off Tournament with a 53-31 victory over Northern Lehigh.

The Hawks used a 14-4 second quarter to pull away from the Bulldogs (0-1).

Nolehi’s Aiden Parvel led all scorers with 18 points. The Hawks received a team-high 10 points from Zahir French-Clark.

Hazleton swept Tamaqua in a season-opening non-league meet.

The Cougars posted a 124-44 win in the boys meet, and a 107-69 triumph in the girls competition.

Mia Jones won the diving event for the Raiders with a score of 163.90.
