Christmas concert

Freely Given will present a Christmas Gospel Concert at St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg at the church’s 10 a.m. Advent service on Sunday.

Middlecreek Advent

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, celebrates every Sunday in Advent with Scripture reading, candlelighting and other celebratory things like handbells, special music and themed sermons that tell the Christmas story.

The service begins at 10:30 a.m. and concludes at noon.

Community supper

This Sunday, from 3 to 4 p.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding another community Sunday supper.

Polk tree lighting

The 25th Annual Polk Township Tree Lighting will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Polk Veterans Memorial, across from Salem-St. Paul’s Church. Residents are asked to bring a 2 3/4-inch picture of their respective veteran or active-duty military loved one. People can make an ornament to put the picture in and hang it on the tree.

The event includes music, snacks, stories and special guests.

It is free.

Riders meet

The Riders from Post 927 are holding their monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. For more information, call E. Shaver at 570-977-8208.

Monday bingo

The Legion Post Home is slated to have another bingo night on Monday. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with card sales. Calling begins at 7 p.m.

OTOP meeting

Operation Touch of Home is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert for its monthly meeting.

SAL meeting

Sons of the American Legion will also meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion in Gilbert, but in a different location in the building.

WELL board

The West End Little League Board is slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park. Next week, same time, same place it is the monthly open meeting.

Soup sale

Effort UMC is hosting another soup sale. Being offered are Chicken Ditalini Italiano - chicken broth bases with chicken, ditalini pasta, Italian vegetables and herbs, touch of Parmesan - and beef vegetable barley.

Orders will be taken through Dec. 15 and soup pickup is Dec. 19, after the church services.

Las Posadas told

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will re-create the Latin Christmas tradition of Las Posadas, which symbolizes the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for shelter in Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus.

A one-evening event will portray that journey.

It takes place at the church at 6 p.m. next Wednesday and will include traditional food, Novena, music, procession and the preschool holiday play.

Community dinner

Zion Lutheran has announced a free community Christmas dinner drive-thru from 1 to 3 p.m. for Dec. 25.

Reservations are required and a pickup time will be assigned to prevent long wait lines and traffic in the parking lot.

Chili cook-off

It is a chili cook-off on Jan. 29, beginning at 1 p.m., at the West End Fire Co. in Brodheadsville as chili cookers, entering their chili for judging, pay a fee to do so.

Everyone else, meaning the eaters, also have to pay, including students over the age of 12. Children younger than 12 are free.

Chili cookers should bring their chili in a slow-cooker and it should be almost fully cooked before they arrive.
