Towamensing to keep taxes level, raise garbage

Towamensing Township will keep the tax rate in check next year.

Supervisors agreed last week to leave the real estate tax at 2 mills.

But, garbage rates will increase by about $35 across the board.

Supervisor John Kleintop explained that after looking at next year’s spending plan, a garbage rate increase was needed.

That came after Kleintop said in October there would not be a garbage rate increase in 2022, but that there would probably have to be an increase to the residential rates in 2023.

In other business, the board said it would hold its end-of-year meeting at 3 p.m. Dec. 28.
