Basket raffle set

Diana Everitt and Angela Schwartz have set up a basket raffle to benefit the family of 9-year-old Emma Werner, who died as a result of a car accident over Halloween weekend.

All money raised from the basket raffle will be going to Emma’s family.

Anyone wishing to donate a basket is asked to call Angela Schwartz at 806-319-7618 or Diane Everitt at 570-620-6208. Donations should have been handed in by today to allow for organization time.

The raffle is being held on Saturday, at Indian Mountain Rod and Gun Club Road in Kresgeville, beginning at noon.

Mass tonight

Our Lady Queen of Peace will offer a Mass in recognition of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at 12:10 and 7 p.m. today. The church office will be closed.

Rock painting

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is hosting a Gingerbread Jingle family event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. It includes building a graham cracker gingerbread house, making holiday cards and ornaments, and enjoying a special story time. Tickets are necessary for a small fee and are available at the WPCL Circulation Desk, while supplies last.

Next Wednesday the library invites people to support the WPCL staff by wearing an ugly sweater to the library.

December’s Crafternoon will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 16. Adults only is the request. Registration is required.

Polk meeting

There will be a general meeting for the Polk Township Supervisors at 8 a.m. Thursday at the township municipal building in Kresgeville.

General meetings are for time sensitive matters which require a decision.

PVEN Board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s Board of Directors will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Takeout meal

West End Missions will offer a takeout dinner, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

Christmas quilts

The quilters of the Western Pocono Women’s Club have donated 24 quilts made with beautiful Christmas print fabrics to Monroe County Meals on Wheels clients.

Quilting continues on Dec. 16 at the home of a club member.

The club expresses its thanks to the family of the late Margaret Kluk for the donation of much fabric from their beloved deceased family member.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Post Home in Gilbert.

PV band concert

The Pleasant Valley High School band concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school’s new auditorium.

Caroling time

On Friday, members of Zion Lutheran plan to go caroling at 6 p.m. to cheer its homebound, weather permitting. The snow date is Dec. 17.

Winners display

The Monroe County Conservation District had its art opening in regard to the 2022 calendar photo contest winners.

This exhibit will run through Jan. 31, 2022.

People can drop in to view the winners at 9 a.m. Saturday and on other days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Proceeds from calendar sales will benefit Environmental Education programs at Kettle Creek.

Breakfast & cookies

McMichaels UMC will be serving a complete breakfast, including beverages, from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.

In addition, the church is having its annual cookie sale that day. Baskets will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. with the promise of a large variety.

SFRC food pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. This is a normal distribution along with additional items for Christmas.

Anyone receiving a free turkey or ham from a local store and not wanting or needing it may bring it to the Effort UMC after making arrangements as to time.

Drive-thru

The American Legion Auxiliary is hosting an open-to-community Christmas drive-thru for children ages 0 to13, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. There is to be a free gift from Santa.

Baby blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a blessing of the Baby Jesus figurine from the families’ home Nativity scene at 4 p.m. Saturday and at 8 a.m. and noon on Sunday.

Old Time Christmas

Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living historical farm, is having its Old Time Christmas Days for Saturday and Sunday.

Hours are from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are required.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC will have services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. In between will be the fellowship breakfast beginning at 9:30 a.m. It is a free will donation event with the proceeds going to the church Capitol Improvement Fund.

Sunday services

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has announced its December and January services. They include Sunday services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., inside with masks and distancing, also on Facebook Live at 10:30 a.m. most Sundays and a virtual video every other Sunday.

In between services attendees of all ages can learn about the Reason for the Season while decorating the sanctuary tree with music and fun.

Riders meeting

Post 927 Riders are having their monthly meeting at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

McMichaels service

McMichaels UMC’s Sunday service is on Facebook every week beginning at 9:30 a.m. but can be viewed any time for several weeks.
