Weatherly Borough passes 2022 budget with no tax increase

Weatherly taxpayers have good news as the Weatherly Borough Council approved at their regular meeting on Nov. 22 a 2022 budget with no tax increase. The new budget is $5,870,281, a bit more than a half-million dollars higher than 2021’s. Some hard work brought the budget in to where no new tax revenue was needed.

Borough residents will be paying more for garbage next year. Bills will rise to $25 a month versus $20. Electric rates will also see a jump, though by how much remains to be determined after meetings with the electricity suppliers in these next few weeks.

In other business, council approved buying via lease a new F250 four-wheel drive pickup, with a utility body, for the street department. Cost over the term of the lease is $56,680. The truck is nearly ready to be delivered. It will replace an older truck that will be retired, and then advertised for sale on MuniciBid.

A Plane Street homeowner approached council about a handicapped parking space. His home is located along a no parking area on that street, so the request was referred to borough attorney James Nanovic for his advice.

There has been substantial vandalism to the shelters in Eurana Park recently. Police are working to learn who has done this. For now, the borough will post no trespassing signs around that area of the park.

Weatherly Borough Council will meet next on Dec. 20.
