State police at Frackville report on incidents

State police at Frackville reported on the following Schuylkill County incidents.

• On Nov. 15 at 8:03 p.m. troopers said a rear-end crash occurred along Valley Street at Ferndale Road in New Philadelphia. The striking vehicle fled the scene but was located a short distance away. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle but the driver continued to flee. A short pursuit ensued with the driver of the fleeing vehicle losing control and crashing.

The driver was identified as Darion Turner, 26, of Reading. She was found to be under the influence and in possession of a loaded gun without proper permit which was also reported stolen.

She was taken into custody and charged with receiving stolen property and fleeing or attempting to elude police, both felonies; and misdemeanor counts of DUI, firearms not to be carried without a license, accidents involving damage to attended vehicle/property and motor vehicle code violations. She was arraigned before a district judge and released on bail.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 68-year-old man from Port Carbon, was not injured.

• Troopers said Derek Varner, 41, of Lansford, has been charged with harassment - physical contact, following an incident that occurred on Nov. 20 at 6:25 a.m. along Tamaqua Street in Rush Township. Troopers said Varner and a 29-year-old woman from Tamaqua, were involved in an argument which turned physical when Varner allegedly pushed the female to the floor and slapped her face.

State police at Frackville reported on the following arrests made by troopers at Schuylkill County locations.

• On Nov. 26 at 12:25 p.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop along Route 61 in Frackville. The driver was identified as Jones Novas-Espinosa, 23, of Mahanoy City. It was determined that Novas-Espinosa had a felony warrant for his arrest issued out of Luzerne County by the sheriff’s department. He was taken into custody and lodged in the county prison in Pottsville, pending his transfer to Luzerne County authorities.
