Carbon OKs request for AED machines

Carbon County is making sure it is prepared in case an emergency happens that requires an AED machine.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners approved a request from the purchasing department for the purchase of 13 semi-automatic Zoll AED 3 machines from One Beat Medical in Miramar, Florida. The total cost for all the machines is $21,125 and covered under a grant through PCoRP, the county’s insurance provider.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner, who chairs the county’s safety committee, said that the county already has an AED in each of its buildings, but after further discussion, the committee felt there should be an AED on each floor.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein added that a good portion of the county employees are certified in CPR and using the AEDs.

There is also one employee who is certified as an instructor, while another employee is working to become certified as an instructor.
