Tree arrives at Schuylkill courthouse

The Schuylkill County Courthouse Christmas tree arrived Wednesday.

The 12-foot Fraser fir from Leonard’s Tree Farm in Hegins reached Pottsville at 11:30 a.m. and was set into place. Each year a different department is selected to decorate it. The clerk of courts has the honor this time. Clerk of Courts Maria Casey said Pod and Petal in Pottsville will adorn the tree with an animal theme. Donations will be accepted for the Hillside SPCA and Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA and the DAWGS Prison Program.

“We’re hoping there will be donations and maybe some dogs adopted,” Casey said.

She said the causes are worthwhile to contribute to.

“We just want to help them,” she said.

Food and other items are accepted. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts office.

Public works director Kevin Mahal said the tree will be up until the first week of January.
