Tamaqua news for Dec. 2, 2021

American Primitive

Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua. There will be no Sunday school until further notice.

Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St. If you have questions or are interested in attending, contact Mark at 570-952-5098.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley.

Garden Club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its November meeting on Nov. 16. The program for the night was a craft project led by Louise Flexer which included a decorated wooden snowman made by each member. The arrangement for the meeting to be judged was a patriotic theme and was won by Mary Bridygham.

The December meeting will be the annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 14, at noon. Please note time change from regular meetings. The arrangement to be judged will be a Christmas arrangement in a jar with fresh, silk or dried flowers; specimen, winter greens. Each member is asked to bring a covered dish and recipe to share. In lieu of a gift exchange each member is asked to bring a monetary donation which this year will be donated to Ruth Steinert SPCA. Meeting will be held at Zion Church Social Hall, Lewistown Valley. Advent service

Tamaqua’s annual Advent Breakfast is again on hold due to COVID concerns, but the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network and Tamaqua Ministerial Association are offering a hybrid Community Advent Service on Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church is hosting the event.

The service is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on St. John XXIII’s website and Facebook page. The service includes music, message and a candlelighting ceremony. St. John XXIII is located at 307 Pine St., Tamaqua. Masks are optional.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. with evening praise and worship at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday prayer and share at 7 p.m.

Upcoming events include Dec. 12 Christmas party/dinner following morning worship. There will be no evening service; Dec. 18 Christmas caroling, meet at the church at 4 p.m., refreshments to follow; Dec. 19 Sunday school Christmas program at the 10:25 a.m. service.

Andreas VFW

Andreas VFW Post 5069 will meet on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the West Penn Annex building.

The post is participating in Wreaths Across America. Members are to be at the Hometown Market on Dec. 18 before 10 a.m. to be transported to Sky-View Cemetery.
