On this date: Nov. 30, 1962

Frank J. Cannon of Lansford, a Summit Hill native, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the Pennsylvania State Police and reassigned from Hazleton to Troop A, Philadelphia.

Cannon, well-known in the Panther Valley-Carbon County area, won the Pennsylvania State Police pistol shooting title for four consecutive years in 1954, ’55, ’56, ’57.

He was promoted to the rank of first sergeant in September of 1960 while serving in Hazleton.

Also announced from the office of Col. Frank McCartney of Lansford, state police commissioner, was the transfer of Capt. Joseph McIlvaine as troop commander in Hollidaysburg to commander in Hazleton. Capt. McIlvaine is a former Lehighton resident.
