State police at Lehighton report on DUI, assault

State police at the Lehighton barracks report on the following:

• Police came upon a crash at the intersection of Lehigh and Riverview drives in Lehigh Township at 1:18 a.m. Nov. 21.

A motorist, who stopped at the scene of the single-vehicle crash, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The suspect will be charged in Northampton County District Court, police said.

• A 31-year-old Kunkletown man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance following a traffic stop conducted by police at 12:42 p.m. Nov. 24.

Police stopped the driver of the 2010 Subaru Impreza for a Motor Vehicle Code violation at the intersection of Bank Street and Lehigh Drive in Bowmanstown. The man was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and refused toxicology testing.

• Stephanie Vernarr, 70, of Lehighton, is facing a charge of harassment by physical contact after state police at the Lehighton barracks were summoned at 1:07 p.m. Nov. 24 to a site along Lake Drive in Towamensing Township.

Police said the woman was issued a non-traffic citation after striking the victim, a 64-year-old Lehighton man.
