Schuylkill County Commissioners extended the date of a contract for County Bridge 103 because extra time is needed for its replacement.

Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction Company, Tamaqua, will now have until April 30, 2022, up from Oct. 29, for the project over the Catawissa Creek in East Union Township.

The entire superstructure of the bridge is being done. Originally the fascia beams needed done but once work started, problems were noticed.

The structurally deficient bridge dates back to 1927. Beams on the two-lane T beam concrete bridge were starting to deteriorate due to salt application. The weight restricted bridge is 72 feet long and 24 feet wide. Dimensions will remain the same.
