Confirmation was received this morning that the Coaldale State General Hospital has been awarded to the Carbon-Schuylkill Community Hospital, a group managed by the 21st Century Health Corporation.

The long-awaited decision was confirmed by Ed DeSeve, special assistant to Gov. Robert P. Casey, who announced in January the state would close the facility on March 31, 1992.

After that announcement, 21st Century of Philadelphia, which turned around two-inner city hospitals, and a community group made up of local businesses people and doctors, organized for the purpose of taking ownership of the hospital.
